In this blog post I will be writing about the history, features. what I personally might expect to see on an album cover from more than one point of view and the definition of an album cover.
An album cover is the front of the packaging of a commercially released audio recording product, or album.
Firstly, one thing that I personally would expect to see on an album cover is something relevant to either the name of the band or the genre of music, or something to do with the headlining song, for example, oasis's album cover for their album 'Whats the story morning glory' has the album title on it, and also the image looks rather calming, which links to there style of music.
But from another point of view, most people would not have a specific expectation towards album covers, since almost every band has completely irrelevant album covers or close to, to there genre and doesn't really relate to their band name or anything else. For example, the famous rock band Guns N' Roses, they have an album called 'Appetite for destruction', that name doesn't exactly relate to their music, and the album cover doesn't relate to the band in the slightest since theres an image of a 'rape' scene, and due to this the album cover was banned, so the band had to change their album cover for their album to be released.
Lastly, the features of an album cover sometimes don't relate to anything to do with either the band or the name of the album, but album covers can be extremely simple and still relate to the name of the album or the band and still be effective, such as Metalica's album 'Black'.
